Those brave men came home to sub standard housing, poor medical care where thousands died of infectious diseases and little or no help for those suffering in hard times. But still they shouldn't have whinged and should just have "rolled up their sleeves "as you put it.
You talk of people being part of the problem or solution so can you just answer this question: Are large international companies who avoid or pay very little tax part of the problem or solution? Companies such as Amazon who because orders are routed through their Luxembourg office avoid paying tax. Why is it I never hear you attacking them?

As for the line that "most people think the state owes them living", that's just a cheap and easy throw away insult not based on fact. Most people? Really?
If large, international companies are breaking the law...they would be punished. You can not blame Amazon for government rulings...governments that are democratically elected.

I do believe that most people don't want to get involved these days...hence my comment on this RUFC forum reference to RUFC.

If all the negative energy was put towards helping the club, the situation would be better than people continue to complain about...stop whinging, spend your tenner every 2 weeks and go support the damn club.

It is a reflection of the attitude most people have these days...next time it snows in the UK, see how many people are outside your house clearing the snow to help others...tongue

But surely Bob if we follow your ideology then we shouldn't "Nanny" others and clear their snow. They should take responsibility for themselves and "roll up their sleeves." Members of the community coming together and helping each other out? Sounds far too Socialist for me. As your Pin Up Girl Thatcher told us, "there's no such thing as community just personal responsibility."

Club is an absolute laughing stock at the minute, despite his best efforts Liam McDonald is simply not what we need at this moment in time, he is a poor excuse for a manager - standing there with his hands in his pockets not saying a word as we're getting whacked 3 or 4 nil every week! His assistant manager Nick does a far better job, at least he has a passion for winning and shouts out instructions to the lads, have barely heard Liam say a word to the players on the pitch so far this season. Would much rather have Nick instated as manager or even go back to management under Redhead than see McDonald in charge, his first role in management and the fact he is 28 are showing up already as he has been a shambles in charge. There may not be enough quality apart from a few to put together a winning team with but we need a fresh face in the dugouts someone who is willing to give the lads a rollicking and show some passion on the sideline, we cannot simply carry on with a manager who does not give a toss, before we know it the season will be over with Redditch getting relegated again and that's exactly what will happen unless McDonald is sacked. Only positive signs at the moment are the fact that we have some great young talent in Molyneux, Ahenkora and Leavi, apart from that there's not much to write home about, all I know is that things need to change quickly otherwise we will be facing relegation and we will struggle to attract over 100 people to home games (as we already are now)
For a town of 90,000+ it's simply not good enough to only have 100-150 people turning up every week at the Valley, I think it's an absolute disgrace and something needs to be done to attract higher crowds, higher attendances means more revenue which can go back into the club, it's no good having a season ticket initiative being advertised in the paper, there needs to be regular calls for people to attend games EVERY week in the Advertiser. The club needs to persistently get on the backs of the people of Redditch to come to games and hopefully we may just get an atmosphere back at the Valley along with a respectable attendance, the Valley has been dead quiet for years now and I fear soon the club may not be in existence if no one can be arsed to bother with the club anymore. We need to bring some pride back into our local team, it's as simple as that.

RUFCfan...I personally paid for 6 adverts in the Standard at the back end of the 2010 season...cost? $400.
Did we see an increase in admission? not really...

The Advertiser cost was ridiculous....so how exactly do you see a loss making club spending money it hasn't got on advertising, that may or may not work?

The only way is to deep root the youth of the club to start a new breed of supporter...I think this is starting to work with the Youth section actually working with the club instead of doing something separately. Time will tell.

Disappointed to see your comments ref Liam. I always think a 'coaching' manager at our level is always better than a 'studious' approach...although everyone is different.
I think it is unfair to say he doesn't care...imagine how much time he is spending trying to find players, training, games....it's a tough ask, as always.

Is there no reason why Swan can't get his wallet out and pay for the advertisements himself? He's got enough, he doesn't seem to give a toss neither about the future of the club, he said a year or two ago that he wanted Redditch to be in the Conference Premier within 5 years, unless drastic changes are made then that simply will not happen, he must be delusional if he thinks we can achieve that considering the clueless mute of a manager we have in charge currently and the deteriorating fan base that are simply not bothering to come to games anymore, he should be urging supporters to attend games every week in the paper, on the website and on social media to get the point across and hopefully attract more supporters to games, it's no good saying one thing every now and then. If people were repeatedly told to support their local club through social media, paper, website, etc then the crowds may just increase, at the moment no effort to do this is being made whatsoever.

Oh and another thing, whoever chooses the music at the Valley needs to have a long, hard look at themselves, remember back in November we were getting whacked 3-0 on a freezing cold afternoon when all of a sudden 'Sex on the Beach' comes on

It seems to me from the few games I've seen this season that what is lacking is passion. Even in the days of zero budgets the players always appeared to have the enthusiasm and effort which in turn generated passion amongst the terraces. This seems to have departed.

Not only on the pitch but throughout the club there seems to be a laissez-faire, something'll turn up, things will get better, attitude.

We need. I think, someone on the management/coaching staff who can instil the passion into the players and through the players onto the terraces and into the club as a whole. I don't know why but the name Trevor Whittingham comes to mind or even Carl Heggs (sorry Arsene!)

But something NEEDS to be done as dwindling crowds (and interest) will eventually be the death of RUFC.

I think it is unwise to ask the Directors to put money into the club again...didn't work last time, did it?

I remember exactly what Mr Swan said at his 1st Fan's Forum: 'There is no reason why a town the size of Redditch could not support a club in the Conference Prem, this is the objective in the next 5 years'

He also said 'the club must be self financing, I will support the playing budget if there is a shortfall in income'

What Mr Swan didn't understand at the time is the apathy around the town for the club....there are hundreds of reasons of why that is and most people on here know many of them.

The club is building from within, we all know the 1st team is suffering, but it is what the club can afford....what can people expect? Mr Swan to put $4k per month into the team to get another 100 people on the gate...generating 2k extra per month?

The last people to try that business model were calling me and others at 8pm to pay for the electric to be kept on!

Feel sorry for any non league supporters when their club folds and goes to the wall.
Is a re-birth possible? probably...

Exactly what continues to happen when clubs spend more than they generate and do not apply basic business knowledge to this crazy world of football.
