McDonald reflects on Omari's switch to Cheltenham

It has been a busy week for Redditch United Manager Liam McDonald who has seen one of his talented crop of players fly the nest and swap the Southern League Premier for the Football League.

It's been an inspiring story which has seen Omari Sterling James journey start last season at Alvechurch and this season begin to play his trade in League 2, But it was his move to Redditch United under the guidance of Manager Liam McDonald that seen Omari fulfil his potential and make the step into the Football League.

McDonald said "He is delighted and very proud that one of his young guns have made the move into fulltime football and believes Omari can excite the supporters at Whaddon Road”. McDonald was quick to point out that it wasn't only Redditch who played a part in Omari's rise into fulltime football, but also a key figure in his development has been Birmingham City coach and former Alverchurch manager Dean Hotham.

Liam said "Omari is a great lad, he's thanked the club for what it's done for him which is great and he'll be missed around the changing room, but it's not only myself that has played a part in Omari's move to Cheltenham, Dean Hotham has played a big role in his development and I'm sure Omari is thankful to Dean and the coaches at Birmingham City".

McDonald was quick to praise the set up at Blues. Not only did Omari come through the blues development ranks but current Redditch players Max Loverage, Jamie Spencer, Liam Spink and Simeon Maye have progressed through the ranks and he firmly believes Omari is just the first of many at Redditch that can realise there dream of Progressing in to the Football League.
