Car park usage? Empty Car park usage?

Just a thought, but what about advertising long stay parking at the club on non matchdays.
It costs around £8 in the multi story at the Kingfisher and cheaper alternatives are limited due to lack of spaces.
The car park at the club is spitting distance from the train station and kingfisher centre, so £3 all day isn't unreasonable. Commuters who like to leave their car at the train station could also benefit from cheaper parking (when golden cross is full).
You could even offer an annual permit.

Another selling point is that there is always someone at the club so advertise the security factor.

You could also go one further and offer valeting, or rent pitch out to a valeting company.

Car park usage? Empty Re: Car park usage?

This is a good idea.

The multi-storey car parks are certainly expensive for anything other than short term use. However, there are already alternatives around the outskirts of the town centre. There is a decent size car park off Prospect Hill and a newish one next to The Black Horse. These are significantly cheaper than the shopping centre car parks. I believe they charge around £3-£4 per day. That’s not to say we can’t compete with them.

It’s certainly worthy of consideration by the club. A simple bit of research on the alternative car parks prices & typical number of customers etc, could give a good indication if this could work. As an ‘alternative town centre car park’, we’d certainly have a location advantage for train station users.

I’m guessing now, but I expect that a lot of train station users currently use the free off street parking on Britten Street and Edward St. That whole industrial area will be gone within a year or two. Asda are building a supermarket there and they will certainly take measures to prevent abuse of their car park. Asda moving in could give the club a real opportunity to provide parkers with an alternative.

I can’t agree with you on the security situation though. Somebody in the clubhouse all day is not going to help. The car park as it is, will be a car thief’s dream. To work, the club would need to invest in a couple of CCTV cameras and some proper car park lighting. With those in place, this could quite possibly be a profitable venture.

Car park usage? Empty Re: Car park usage?

This is something the Club looked at last year, although on the face of it sounds like a good idea there were a lot of factors to consider.
The car park is used as a short cut from Cedar Road so there is a hefty cost to secure the Cedar Road boundary, we would need someone to man the Car park/take money again at a cost, the Car Parks increased usage will mean regular maintenance and there is nothing to stop people parking on the Hill for Free as some already do and the same for Plymouth Road and surrounding roads around the centre. we are going to at some point look at maybe a external contractor to see if this is a viable route.
