Re: Press Release from Sockett
I'm not sure Graham Hyde is making a fortune & Andy Sinton would have come for next to nothing...

Re: Press Release from Sockett
The appoinment of Martin Sockett is not suprising really is it. Worked with Fenemore on more than one occasion a very 'safe' choice imo.
The Graham Hyde factor is interesting, does anyone know what Grahams true ambitions are with regards to management?

no but I know he likes the training side of football and will be a great asset to the new academy, working with the very age of people we want to encourage for now and the future.redsfan wrote:The appoinment of Martin Sockett is not suprising really is it. Agree Jeff. Hyde is superb on the traing ground, motivating and questioning the players all the time.Redjeff wrote:no but I know he likes the training side of football and will be a great asset to the new academy, working with the very age of people we want to encourage for now and the future.redsfan wrote:The appoinment of Martin Sockett is not suprising really is it. But is he happy to stay this way or does he have more senior management ambitions? Basically we don't want to lose him so will he be happy as a No2?

Bob Marley wrote:When the missing hundreds around the town read that Martin Sockett is now the new Reds manager, they will have forgotten his name 5 minutes later...this isn't going to get them down the Valley out of interest.
I seriously hope that I am wrong, but I am just not excited by this appointment (as a Reds fan) so why would other potential punters be at all interested? Results on the field are the most important thing, so I hope Martin will deliver where it counts!
+ 1. I am not excited by this appointment and I think the old pals act has got this job. There will be little interest in the club from Martin Sockett managing RUFC, crowds will not flock to the Valley to watch us play football.
Would be interesting who applied for the job, if anybody....
Re: Press Release from Sockett
When you are in crisis, you turn to what you know best.
I believe there were a number of applicants..but with the budget constraints and the pre-determined fact GH will be Number 2, many applicants were not interested or discounted at the first stage.

Re: Press Release from Sockett
Blimey, we could have Employed Sir Alex Fergason and people would have complained.
Let's give this guy a chance before saying if he's the right man or not.
I'm not sure if the people of Telford wen't "ooh, Andy Sinton is manager, lets all go an watch" but he formed a very successful side, and that's why they had nearly 5,500 watchin them in the playoff final vs Guisely.
I'm not saying he's the right or wrong manager, i'm saying lets give him a chance... see what he can do then decide.
I'm sure if he does get us in the playoffs... people won't say he wasn't the right man
We haven't kicked a ball yet so lets just see how it goes.
It's not going to be plain sailing next season, but we, as fans need to get behind the manager!
It's not asif Rugby Town got relagated either! They finished 6th... 6th!!
Okay it may have been in the league below, but what's the standard gap between the premier division and the one below?
A bit of positivity towards this guy before the start of this season wouldn't go a miss!!

Re: Press Release from Sockett
I'm in the 'meh' camp about the appointment im afraid, dont really see it as a step forward at all. Saying that I'm, as im sure other are, more than willing to be proved wrong and am firmly behind him now he's in charge.
Re: Press Release from Sockett
I work with a few Albion fans who were up in arms when Hodgson was appointed....rather quiet now mind!
Everyone has their thoughts..it's a forum..that's what it's for.

Re: Press Release from Sockett
Lets give the poor guy a chance. Blimey! He has only been in the job a few days, and the knives are out for him.
If he can turn the club round on the field, then thats brilliant!, but before we all give him his P45 lets see what he can do, He has a proven track record, and knows this league well. I for one will be right behind him come the opening day of the season.

Re: Press Release from Sockett
From the Rugby Town Forum
" From: maytheforcebewithyou: I'm bothered, like all Rugby Town fans should be, to the fact that Martin Sockett has gone. He was a great motivator for the players / team / fans etc. He put himself out on many occasion to help get the club on the right route to go upwards in then league structrure. Sure there were hiccups, just ask ANY team that had a draw or a loss to their name. He put together, with Dave, a group of guys we could admire for effort, purpose, commitment & they bloody delivered.
Miss him? For what he's done for us, course i will."
And
"I agree Maytheforce be with you, im dissapointed Martin has gone.
I found him a really nice genuine fella who always went out of his way to chat to us hardy fans especially at away games, he appreciated our efforts as we did his. Because he's a likeable fella, the players worked hard for him. Yes he made 1 or 2 strange team selections (dont all managers!) but overall i thought he did a great job and bought in some decent players on a well documented tight budget.
Good luck at Redditch Martin and thanks for an entertaining season."

I do not think the knives are out....I was expecting more.
It is healthy debate on this kinda issue rather than who we owe money to!
I am sure all Reds fans will wish Martin well.

Re: Press Release from Sockett
Martin Socket has chosen his assistant for next season.

I like the idea of having more local players involved in the first team, in principle at least. I'm sure that in reality, it's not quite that simple. Are there enough Redditch lads that are willing and good enough for this level?
Another plus is that they are likely to attract a number of friends and family to cheer them. Even if not from town, lads from the Birmingham area are also likely to attract personal support. If each matchday player could attract maybe 5 'personal' fans each, that could add 70-80 to the gate; thats not a huge number per se, but could represent a fairly high percentage increase on our recent average attendances.
That said, how many of these family and friends get to walk in through the 'freebie' turnstile? That's something that needs to be stopped, as chances are, they are going to attend anyway.

Re: Press Release from Sockett
'He'll work with the players on a one to one basis' That'll be the defence then, after 250 games as a 'no nonsense' defender....
Hydey is our coach...a brilliant one at that...I hope he doesn't get his nose pushed out on the training ground.
Two's company and all that....
