I never understand the logic behind this.
After a turbulent start to the season, Reds get two good results and have the chance to put some momentum together.
Win or lose, I don't see how this helps the bigger picture.
Re: Worcester City tonight
I think it's o.k. to use these games to ease in some of the U21's, but maybe just to bring in 2-3 at a time. They shouldn't be used to make a large number of changes, particularly as we are already out of three cup competitions.

Re: Worcester City tonight
At the same time, this is a bit of a tinpot cup compared to the likes of the FA Cup/Trophy, where no competition money is to be made.
Save the legs of our main first team players for league games.
This also gives the younger lads a chance to prove themselves at the senior level, and possibly give Graham and Curly a wider variety when picking a squad.
I doubt Worcester will be risking their key players tonight either, especially whilst they're in a respectable position in the league.

Re: Worcester City tonight
4-0 nil to worcester ft, idea was to rest/avoid injury and give the younger lads a bit more experience. Worcester fielded/started with about 7 first team compared to our two or three and were the better team by far, some good moments and although very well saved a very decent effort from one of our young lads and some good moments. the league is the main objective and not cups that bring no prize money and little income.

Re: Worcester City tonight
Disappointing.
Those 2-3 first teamers won't have gained much confidence from that, nor will the young lads put in.

Re: Worcester City tonight
Reading too much into it Fingers!! Good experience for the lads. 90 mins for fringe players Moses Garvey & Knott . 90 mins for Super Jake oin goal who i gather was superb.Don't care if we lost this 65 nil as long as we win Saturday.

Re: Worcester City tonight
Not really mate, I'm not thinking about the Worcestershire Senior Cup, though I do think we should show it as a competition more respect than 2-3 first teamers.
My concern would be the confidence from 2 wins that those first teamers had may now be lost. Whatever the competition, whatever the standard of team mates/opposition, 4-0 doesn't do young first teamers any good.
Villa were doing well until resting a load of players in the FA Cup at Man City last season, went on to have a poor run. Not saying that will happen to Reds, just disappointed that the risk was taken.

Re: Worcester City tonight
I know last week there was talk of playing a few U21's I just think the win at Weymouth made Graham's mind up to rest even more first teamers.

Re: Worcester City tonight
I guess it depends on knocks etc, but I'll go against the grain here and support a notion that Gary Whild had - matches of any kind are better than training sessions.
Maybe they're saving all their efforts for the Red Insure Cup
Poole Town or Wimborne Town in the final

Re: Worcester City tonight
I for one was not going to bother with this but thought is is Worcester on the back of 2 league victories so local derby game on. Very disappointed with the side put out considering that they had a strong side out (Ryan Clarke, Tom Thornley, Mike Symons, Danny Edwards, Jacob Rowe etc) and I think shows a lack of respect to the competition. It is hardly going to burn out the players and should have been used to properly. Waste of time playing some of the players last night as it was embarrassing as they were not stron or good enought. Moses Garvey was shocking trying to play killer 50 yard balls to teammates...
Training game for Worcester and a waste of petrol and entrance fee for me....

Re: Worcester City tonight
As Rowley would say, that's a chance to work on the first teams performance gone.
Yeah it's great to play u21's players because the only way they'll learn is by playing, but at the end of the day the under 21's won't keep Redditch United's first team in the league.
Maybe if we win the Red Cup our attendance will almost double?!

Re: Worcester City tonight
My opinion is that Graham did exactly the right thing last night.
Do the big teams put their 1st X1 out in the FA Cup? No...why?
The league is more important and no injuries to be risked in games that mean nothing.
Staying in this league is number 1 priority...why risk anything for this 'waste of time'.
The cup is bigger than Gary Whild.

Agree, it's a nothing competition so why risk injuries etc etc... I went to Worcester when we won it the other year, it was good on the night but pretty much forgotten about by the start of the 2008/09 season!!! If Worcester played a strong side (it was said earlier) and we played our full strength side we'd probably of lost anyway, with the risk of injuring our best players!!! Give the youngsters some experience, they may need to step up at anytime later in the season!!!!

The season before they were doing well until they took the reserves over to Moscow in the Uefa Cup as well!!!
I still think it was right for us to play a younger/weaker team in this though!!!

Spoke to Kimbo today who told me Travis took a knock and will be out Saturday.
Exactly the reason NOT to do it.

Re: Worcester City tonight
Totally disagree. We have been pretty poor until the last few games and have got a bit of momentum and this was an ideal test against a good side. Play a bit part team rather than our 1st team to have a good go at extending the unbeaten run? We sound like those Premier League teams worried about burnout... It is bloody non league and you should want to play in and win every game. It is not like we have won many these last few seasons.... A win would have given the club a lot more exposure, onto the next game and starting from scratch again.
Lack of logic. Injuries? They can be picked up in training and any game, that is no excuse. Some of the players given a game on Monday were not ready and well out of their depth (No 5 & 9) and meant it was pretty much a waste of time. Take Deards for example, he played and was gutted as he wants to win every single game he plays, he had to put up with Moses-Garvey thinking he was David Beckham trying to ping 50 yard balls..... Treat the game as it should be, with respect

Totally disagree Leethal.
Yes...there is a risk in all aspects of the game...but why increase the risk?
After a big effort on Saturday, long journey etc....the risk of stretching or pulling something is much increased...we need the squad together as much as we can for the most important thing...staying in the league.
I think Graham did the right thing.
