Match report from the BSBN match on Monday...

http://www.redditchadvertiser.co.uk/sport/redditchunited/conferencenorth/read_article/8767620.Gardiner_s_battlers_make_a_point_/

Redditch United 0 Worcester City 0.

by Andy Mitchell.

Matt Gardiner declared himself pleased with his sides display in the Worcestershire derby - and his praise was justified as the Reds were well worth their point in a match that heralded their first league clean sheet of the season.

The only blot on United's copybook was the feeling that it could have been all three points, and the Reds first win in 12 matches.

Chances came and went for United at the end of the first half while City had the better of the second in a match that always looked as if it would be settled by the odd goal.

In a tepid start Worcester had most of the pressure, but both sides moved the ball well without creating anything until Redditch fashioned the best of their chances after the half hour mark.

Josh Quaynor spread the play from the left and found Marco Adaggio in acres of space, the ex-City striker dashed into the penalty area, but flashed his shot wide of the far post when he should have at least tested Worcester custodian David Parton.

Moments later, Adaggio was denied by a smart block from Parton when he met Matt Smith's low drilled cross from the left; while Parton's reactions were impressive, Adaggio should really have found the net.

Smith himself went close with a header before Wayne Dyer lashed over right on half time, latching onto Adaggio's throughball, he should also have done better after a tenacious burst through the Worcester midfield.

United could ill afford such profligacy.

As expected, City regrouped after the break and came close to opening the scoring just three minutes after the restart.

Simon Richman saw his close range shot parried by Jimmy Dormand and Mark Danks, a target for United last season, rattled the frame of the goal before the ball was cleared.

With the game becoming increasingly stretched, Worcester really should have led on the hour.

The move of the match started with Matt Birley's weighted ball down the right for Danny Glover who slid a smart low pass across the Reds backline to find Danks, but with plenty of time and space he rolled a shot fractionally wide of Dormand's left post with the goal at his mercy. The sides traded chances in a frantic final twenty minutes.

Adaggio should have pulled the trigger earlier when latching onto a misplaced Mark Clyde header, and saw his eventual shot blocked by Richman.

City meanwhile tested Dormand again with Tom Thorley's volley at the other end.

A series of brave blocks from two well marshalled defences snuffed out late efforts from both sides, the experience of Lee Ayres for Redditch and Ryan Clarke of Worcester standing out as the match reached it's conclusion.

In all it was a fair result- but both sides will look to chances missed as the potential catalyst for a scrappy victory.

REDDITCH; Dormand 8, Spencer (c) 6, Timmins 7, FITZPATRICK 8*, Ayres 7, Hurren 7 (Hull 21, 8.), Newbury 8, Dyer 7, Smith 7 (Richards 81), Adaggio 5 (Edwards 75), Quaynor 6.

Unused subs; Ager, Coleman (GK).

Referee: P J Hobday (Tipton) 8.

ATTENDANCE: 505.

Fingers is back, once again!!

Good report mate. Agree Fitzpatrick was the Reds best player! Not sure Hurren deserved a 7 for his effort! He spent all of the 2nd half speaking to his mates opposite the burger van!!

Did you see Rod was there again yesterday??!!

how on earth can you give hurran a 7 as he only spent about 15mins on the pitch, from what i have seen of him against moors and worcester i think he is a waste of time.i thought that the rest of the team worked hard for each other and yes with a little bit more composure in front of goal we could have a couple of goals by half time.

He spent 21 minutes on the pitch, the time we use for player marks in 20, agree it was a little futile rating him but deserved a 7 as he repelled several high balls in the first 15 minutes and got on the end of more than Ayres did up to that point.

With a bit more composure Redditch should have been 3 up at the break, that said, 0-0 in the second half Worcester had two clear chances of their own and hit the bar.

You can't compare player ratings to the ref rating.

The ref got an 8 as he tried to play advantages where possible, was right up with play and got most decisions correct, downgraded only for the late free kick given to City which they put wide (last effort of the game) and for Matt Smith's yellow.

I wish I was following Reds when we had 50+ on the train to away games No
I doubt Spike will make a return unless the club changed hands.
We need to turn The Valley into a 'place to go' on a Saturday afternoon. But how??
Success is a major factor, but things like NOT RUNNING OUT OF BEER ON A MATCHDAY would help Head against wall

Spike won't be back at all in my opinion, though speaking to him the other day he insisted he would be as soon as the club changes hands completely in terms of its directorship.

Honestly, probably not mate.

There are plenty of people who could do the job and I'd be more than happy to offer assistance to anyone who did want to take it up.
