Redditch United Legends

"Officials at the club are creating a ‘Hall of Fame’ featuring prominent former players and will be launching it at a special night on Thursday December 1.
The event will see four former players inducted into the hall of fame, with a dinner and question and answer session also held on the night Organiser Jeff Watson said: “There are so many legends that have been associated with Redditch United who have given us so many memories."
So, who would you pick as your first four Redditch Legends? Some of you may already know who has been lined up!
For me, the following names immediately spring to mind as prime candidates…
1) Richard Anstiss - No explanation needed!!
2) Mark Taylor - A true professional. He was by far the most important player in our promotion winning season.
3) Richard Softly - Not the greatest player ever, but for loyalty and long term service to the club. Plus, he was a bloody nice bloke.
4) Norman Sylla - goal machine!! It was a pleasure watching him.
I’m sure that there are many more candidates, many before my time!

That is just a small part of RUFC's history but I would say there have been much better players than those listed!

Re: Redditch United Legends
OK, just read the original thread properly, so here's my 4 Redditch United legends.
1. Trevor Whittington - Redditch through and through.
2. Norman Sylla - A proper goal machine for us, beats the other goal machine candidates by a fair bit.
3. Exodus Geohaghon - A rock in defence, can't think of a better centre half at the Valley in my time!!!!
4. Mark Taylor - For the experience he shown during the promotion season.

Richard Anstiss, Richard Field, Mark Taylor and Martin Myers. All four always gave everything when
playing. It shouldn't just be based solely on ability but attitude and dedication as well.

Re: Redditch United Legends
From a different era;
Brian Smart, very very, very long serving player. Midfielder, a bit like Ray Wilkins, you know. never pass forward when 4 passes sideways will do. Always came as a big surprise not to see his name on the teamsheet. Despite the stick we often gave him (4 passes sidewards etc) an absolutely fantastic servant of the club.
Ray Taylor, winger, same period as Brian. The most bow legged player I've ever seen. Must have had ricketts when he was a kid but good, good player.
Both of these were incredibly loyal in our 'golden age' of the mid to late seventies and both stuck by the club when the going got tough when we ran out of money.
Nicky Ingram, local lad and again good player. Scorer of that fantastic diving header (big photo above staircase) that put us throught to the FA cup first round against Peterborough.;
