Absolutely.
Free enterprise and hard work....Mrs T 's values.

Oh for Maggie these days Sad ...our great country wouldn't be full of lazy, good for nothing, Jeremy Kyle types sucking the social system into more debt.

Cue Ted Striker.
I don't want to drag this worthwhile discussion about the club into an off-topic "Bore Off" candidate, so I'll pass, thanks. But I'll happily list all the reasons why you're wrong in a more suitable forum, if you like Wink

1. Remember the general strikes in the 70's? Maggie sorted that rabble out.
2. Europe? Thanks Mr Blair....over stretched services now completely bankrupt with the next wave ready to stream in to have a bit themselves.
3. Maggie gave working class people the right and opportunity to buy their own house....so much for squeezing the lower classes,
4. Privatization of all the public services that were on their knees and bankrupt.
5. World leader respected by all heads of state
6. Instigated the boom of the 80's.

Oh for someone with her balls now. Sad Senile

I do like how some people rewrite history. Yes Maggie encouraged the working classes to buy their council houses only for those working classes to see them being repossessed. 75,000 a year were being repossessed by the time she resigned. We had interest rates that peaked at 17% and inflation that peaked at 21%. Poverty went from 13% of the population in 1979 to 22% in 1990. Yes there was a boom of some sorts in the eighties, although GDP never grew by more than 2%, but it was sandwiched by two severe recessions. Another myth is public sector employment. It was 23% of the workforce when she resigned compared to 20% now. I could add crumbling schools and antiquated hospitals where patients died on hospital trolleys due to lack of beds.

She may be your pin up girl Bob but for the vast majority she was a disaster. I think you've been attending too many Tea Party rallies!!

75,000 the year after she had left office.

42,000 repossessed houses at the hieght of Blair / Brown, now a steady 16,000 repossessed a year under cameron.

Your point Mr Head ?

Poor form, Bob, poor form.

Let the data speak....absolutely TS
My point is that there are 2 sides in every story and Mr Head's google generated information was biased.

I know you dont agree...but straight from the top of my head:

1. Ended Socialism in Britain (see Maggies speach on Socialism...classic). She privatized state-owned industries and allowed tenants in council houses the right to buy their homes. Margaret Thatcher privatized industries by selling shares and millions of Britons became the first in their family to own stock in a company.

2. Revitalized the British economy from the depression of the 70s. Margaret Thatcher cut taxes and regulation quite far. When she became prime minister in 1979, the top tax rate was 98%; the bottom rate was 65%. However much or little you earned, you were paying most of your money in taxes. When Margaret Thatcher left office in 1990, the top tax rate was only 40% and the bottom tax rate was 25%. This allowed people to keep more of their own money and buy things. By cutting regulation, Margaret Thatcher allowed business to thrive in Britain.

3. Cut the power of the trade unions. Introduced legislation to mandate secret ballots among union members before having a strike and banning secondary picketing. The number of strikes went way down. Also, by defeating strikes such as the miners and steel, Margaret Thatcher sent a message loud and clear that striking won't work anymore.

4. Radically changed British society. Margaret Thatcher's policies of free enterprise, privatization, home ownership and less government allowed millions of Britons to move up in society. As a result, the class system was weakened, more people moved into the middle class and upward mobility became the 'in' thing.

5. Won the Falklands War. When Argentina invaded the Falkland Islands in 1982, Margaret Thatcher sent a large navy task force down to retake those islands. Britain won the Falklands War and it was Britain's first military victory since 1945. The Falklands Victory forever broke the blue funk Britain had been in since the end of World War II and made Britain feel proud, strong and confident again.

6. Through her friend, President Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher won the Cold War. President Reagan would not have been President Reagan if it was not for Margaret Thatcher. She became Prime Minister before Reagan was elected president and her example made it possible for Reagan to be elected. As president, Reagan often looked to her for guidance and leadership in waging the Cold War.

7. Got Iraq out of Kuwait. When Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait in August 1990, Margaret Thatcher was visiting President George H. W. Bush in Colorado and she told him forcefully that he must send troops to Saudi Arabia and get Kuwait freed. Bush the elder did not dare disagree with Mrs. Thatcher so he did what she told him.

8. Created the world we live in today. The fact that capitalism and democracy are seen as the best and only viable forms of political economy is all because of Margaret Thatcher. Other countries around the world followed her example.

Would it be fair to say there is a hint of bias in your last post Bob or do you only reserve that label for those who have the audacity to disagree with you. It seems most of what you written is a matter of opinion, well apart from the tax rates you quote. Which are wrong by the way, perhaps you should try try yahoo!

True, but i'm going to sound like BM here (it's one thing I do agree with him on) if that's all we can support as a club, that's all we're going to get, with crowds dropping by the week the budget is more than likely going to be less by next season!!! We're a big town but a small club, finding our place in the pyramid again (lets face it, the conf north seasons we were punching above our weight for the size of the club) and sadly that may be a league below at the the moment!!!

It would be great to pump loads of money in, but when we're in the conference averaging 500/600 a game (due to decent away supports) and whoever pumped the money in has had enough, that would without doubt be the end of the club IMO
not sure thats how it is, our att's were up on average last season and thats when we should have done something to build on the no's. if swan had done his homework he would have a clear idea on numbers yet still promissed the club, fans an town a league club.it started well, then the fog cleared we started to see the reality of it all. and thats when new blood stopped coming through the gates and reg fans stopped coming.if we were doing ok then i'd agree but we're not and its not the fans or the people of redditch's fault its the swans, the opportunity has been lost and not even bob 'bono' marley can save us now.i'd rather support a dead club that tried than a club trying to die.swans out please.

Trying desperately to drag this conversation back on topic...

Underground, you say "Swans out". Who do you propose as a buyer for the club? As far as I can recall, Chris and Sallie were not at the head of a long queue of people clamouring to buy RUFC two years ago, and I hardly think that there will be a bidding war if the Swans do decide to sell up. Bob Marley and others had a Plan B in place, but they were very clear that it had a shelf life, and that has now expired.

I've preached patience with respect to Simon Redhead in this thread and others, and I would urge the same with the owners. I know it's frustrating to see the club struggling on the field, even at this lower level, and it's frustrating to see the attendances falling away and the atmosphere at games deteriorating. But remember that two years ago we were days, hours maybe, from going out of business. If this were not a football club, but a regular business, no one would have saved it; but having put so much money into the club, I'm sure that Chris Swan is not simply going to let that money go to waste and let the club die a quiet and lonely death. But also please don't expect him to throw good money after bad, spending cash on decent players who might keep us in this league when otherwise we might go down, especially after the terrible weather we've had, when there's no guarantee that any individual game will go ahead.

Patience, people. We can choose to trust the Swans or not, but it's not going to change anything. Just support them, support the club, and who knows, maybe in a couple of years' time we'll see the fruits.
